The Cooper River Yacht Club, Collingswood, NJ, is sponsoring a Cooper River Outdoor School this fall. Membership in the Cooper River Yacht Club is not required to participate in the outdoor school programs. This program is supported by I BOAT NJ and the members of the Cooper River Yacht Club.
The outdoor school will offer sailing, paddling (canoes and kayaks), and environmental education programs for youth 10 to 12 years old and who live in Camden County. All participating students must be able to swim. The registration fee is $15 and this one-time fee entitles your child to participate in all four Saturday sessions (September 10, 17, 24, and October 1) from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Students are expected to attend all four sessions and attendance is required for the first session on September 10 due to life jacket instruction including selection/adjustment and basic sailing/boating instruction such as safe boat boarding. Pre-registration is required and will continue until the class is filled. All students must be able to swim. Please register early to reserve a place in the 2011 Cooper River Fall Outdoor School. All five forms are required for registration.
Since one purpose of this outdoor school is to introduce students to activities on and near the river, all students must participate in every activity. Each session will be about 50% environmental education and will include river ecology and conservation related to the Cooper River. Programs will not be cancelled due to bad weather but on-the-water boating activities may be limited and the students will have indoor and outdoor hands-on activities.
Athletic shoes with laces must be worn at all times during the outdoor school. Each student must bring an extra pair of shoes with laces.
